GARY ANDERSON

Gary P. Anderson, MFA, PhD, FThorSoc, FERS, ATSF is a Pharmacologist and Immunologist and the founding Director of the Lung Health Research Centre at the University of Melbourne. He has authored over 200 highly cited papers. His translational research is at the interface of genetic disease models and clinical cohorts focused on understanding molecular mechanisms in asthma, COPD, lung cancer and interstitial lung disease.

Prof. Anderson has made several seminal discoveries on fundamental disease mechanisms and his work has contributed to the discovery and development of four medicines used world-wide, with two further medicines in advanced clinical trials. He conceived the endotype concept of asthma. He has served on the NHMRC Research Committee, the Council of the Australian Lung Foundation and as an adviser to major biopharmaceuticals companies.

Gary was awarded the Research Medal of the Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand (TSANZ) in 2006, and was elected a Fellow in 2014 (FThorSoc). In 2015 he was elected a Fellow of the European Respiratory Society (FERS), and a Fellow of the ATS in 2018 (ATSF) and in 2018 he received the ERS President’s Award for his contribution to lung research.

Gary is assisting RAGE with translational pharmacology strategies supporting the progression of our drug discovery programs to the clinic.
