Professor Phil Hansbro is an internationally recognised research leader in the study of respiratory diseases including asthma, chronic obstructive airway disease, COPD (emphysema) and infections, with developing interests in lung cancer. He is Director of the Centenary UTS Centre for Inflammation, and his work is substantially contributing to understanding disease pathogenesis and the development of novel therapies.
Phil specialises in the development of innovative models that recapitulate the hallmark features of human lung diseases. He employs these models in integrated approaches (infection, immunity and physiology with particular expertise in lung function analysis). With translation to medicine his group’s main goal, Phil collaborates closely with clinical researchers on human clinical studies.
